Our Mission

Our goal is to ensure that Georgia Tech’s trademarks, service marks, logos, and insignias are used properly. We aim to protect the Institute’s reputation by allowing only appropriate, high-quality products to carry Georgia Tech’s name, initials, or logos. Additionally, we generate income to support the Licensing and Trademarks department’s operations and enhance the experience for students, student-athletes, faculty, and staff.

Buzz Fund

Licensing revenue is generated from royalties on product sales, marketing fees, and other promotional activities. Revenue is held in a Georgia Tech Foundation account called the Buzz Fund. Each year, the Buzz Fund provides distributions to three key campus units that generate licensing revenue:

• Alumni Association
• Athletic Association
• Campus Services

The funds are used for student scholarships, internships, student development, and special programs that align with Georgia Tech’s strategic initiatives, including a student-focused education, diversity, globalization, traditions, and school spirit.

In addition, the Buzz Fund helps support the campus-wide event Sting Break and the operating expenses of the Licensing and Trademarks program.
